Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Orthogneisses in a railroad cut 100 m long and 2 to 12 m high on slopes of Klínovčík Hill near Mikulov. The orthogneisses are mostly weathered, fractured and disintegrated, with a N-S-striking fracture zone 20 m broad. They host a ca. 2 m thick dyke of aphanitic granite porphyry.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Saxothuringicum - Krušné hory and Smrčiny crystalline complexes, Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Upper Carboniferous and Permian - Permocarboniferous Volcanits
